Origin
Dachshunds dogs is of German origin which means “badger dog” and due to its appearance they are also called hot dog dog, wiener dog or sausage dog. The Dachshunds true to its name are hunting dogs and have acute sense of smell. They belong to the hound family (hunting dogs) but have short legs and elongated body. They were made to hut rabbits, whereas in the American West they are used to hunt prairie dogs.
Appearance
The body of Dachshunds helps them to enter through the tunnel with ease and the developed senses help them to hunt. There are three types of Dachshunds namely short-haired or smooth, long-haired and wire-haired. If you love to have very naughty and active dogs then dachshunds are the best choices. They are not only lively and affectionate but also willful and clownish. They will keep you busy with their wayward activities and take all your attention.
Grooming
They are obstinate as well as proud and audacious. They are very curious to know things and can sometimes try to train the owner rather than doing, what the trainer says. It has been found that the dachshunds with longer hair are calm whereas the one with wired hair are very sociable and mischievous. These little dogs love to bark but get irritated very soon, sometimes jealous and if get angry can bite. They should not be fed too much as they gain weight very quickly.
