Origin
The Miniature Schnauzer is a German breed which originated in the mid-to-late 19th century after a cross between the standard Schnauzer, the Affenpinscher and probably the poodle. The Miniature Schnauzer’s name is derived after the German word for muzzle, which is Schnauze. Presently it is a companion dog having attributes like competitive obedience, watch dogging, performing tricks, hunting and tracking.
Grooming
Grooming the Miniature Schnauzer is easy as it is not a fussy dog. You just have to pay little attention by combing and brushing its wiry coat with the help of a short wire brush on a daily basis to prevent matting. The hair needs to be cut twice a year in fall and spring seasons. Owners generally clip short the upper body and leave long hairs on the under-parts, head and legs. As this dog shed almost no hair that’s why it is best suited for allergy sufferers.
Health Problems
These dogs do suffer for some peculiar health problems like kidney stones, liver disease, skin disorders, Von Will brand’s disease, diabetes, cysts, liver ailments and hereditary eye problems. The Miniature Schnauzer needs quite a bit of exercise, but will do well as an indoor pet as long as he gets adequate exercise.
